20200502 - IQ -> (EQ)³

 We all know that for centuries, people who possessed a respectable IQ (Intelligence Quotient) were very much respected and regarded in society.

For maybe two or three decades, a few other quotients have been gradually increasing in importance. However, the IQ element still reigned supreme. While other quotients existed and were gradually becoming important, they were still overshadowed by IQ and not visible.

However, with the turn of this decade and the advent of and meteoric improvements in AI, IQ has more or less been placed in its coffin. Due to this, the other ignored quotients are getting their light of day. Sure the equation "IQ + Life experience = wisdom" still holds, but pure intelligence is more or less is on its deathbed.

These are my top three other quotients that are very valuable today & in tomorrow's world
I am sure many of you would have recognised more than these, these are just my top three.

1. Emotional Quotient: I think this term is frequently misused for many things from soft skills to everything else. However, I think it is just how much strength we possess to face adverse situations demanding mental resilience - to stay calm, stay composed, not to panic, not to get anxious etc., and still be able to take rational decisions in various situations. I think these qualities existed in folks earlier but the advent of online social media, disconnecting people from others physically and socially gradually started depleting this. Basically, get offline and interact with real people more to build this strength. Getting offline is taking your mind to the "Emotion Gym". To survive and do well in the world of tomorrow, we need people who have a lot of emotional strength.

2. Energy Quotient: yup, this one is a real physical Gym. We all know intuitively that we have evolved over millions of years with abilities to physically survive. No amount of organised "supermarket living" will give us the physical need for meeting what our bodies are made for. Add to this doom scrolling reels, endless videos, OTT binge watching, every form of brain rotting to help kill the body . It is not surprising that chronic diseases are spreading like wildfire world over. To not just survive, but to show the way to many others in tomorrow's world, we need a lot of people who have the strength of energy in them.

3. Empathy Quotient: I can't pin down one simple factor for the decline of this quality, but the ability to see the world from not just our point of view but from other's. This can be empathy to a fellow human, or empathy towards animals or even empathy for nature and not become selfish and exploitative at every opportunity. This I think is even more important than the other 2. Our survival (our species, all other species & nature itself) depends on it and we definitely need enough people with strong empathy to get us across. Unfortunately, unlike the other 2, there is no Gym to develop empathy. It gets built from a very young age, gets strengthened over the years and can take a lifetime to develop (if at all it does develop)...
