20220603 : laser show

I will be going for a laser show tomorrow. I don't know if I can see it though! The venue is my throat. I was hoping to see it. It is an endoscopic procedure. They will definitely have a camera in the throat. I was hoping, with some luck, the screen would be visible and I can enjoy the show. I have made a bigger draw instead. They have asked me to be on a empty stomach from tonight. They only do that for administering general anesthesia. I was almost forgetting and missing the lovely feeling of going under. Looking forward to that feeling again. Although there is some nervousness. The last time they put me under and did an endoscopic procedure, I woke up with a tooth missing! I hope everything will be intact tomorrow. The procedure for the throat - I don't know much about. I have been tempted several times to ask dr. Google and find out more about it. I have somehow and surprisingly managed not to. I know what they are trying to do though.. Over a very long time, since I have h

20220326 : peg tube replaced

Yesterday morning, one of my old physical rehab doctors - their head of the department actually, visited me in the morning. He did a cursory assessment lifting each limb, pressing the various muscles and hopefully understood what he can only understand. After all that, he told me that my PEG tube was looking very bad and I should get it replaced. I thought about it. It seemed like a genuine advice. The first time it was replaced after 14 months. Its already 16 months since, and it is looking bad. I thought about it. I am already in the hospital. Yes I am recovering from pneumonia, but I am doing nothing else. Besides, lungs are pulmonology department and stomach is gastro department. Shouldn't interfere much. So I sent a message to his assistant to go ahead. You can't change the pipe when the tank is full. So yesterday night was the last feed. I was kept on empty stomach after with IV fluids only. This morning they wheeled me down to the gastro procedure room. There are 4 of th

20210621 : Anesthesia and Consciousness

We all fall asleep everyday. Naps, proper sleep etc. No matter how we sleep or dream or not. The body keeps time. When we wake up, we may not know the time, but we know we slept and approximately how long or short. However, when we are administered general anesthesia, we have no clue. I have been under several times and I can vouch for it. I have never made it past 95 (when I have been asked to count backwards from 100) and my eyes close, much like a blink and when the blink is done and i open my eyes, the procedure is done or I'm in some recovery room. It doesn't matter if it was for a minute, an hour or many hours I am sure, its just a blink. It's like the body and mind were incapable of having a sense of time. The chemical reactions of anesthesiology is known well. But we don't yet know how or why it works that way. There are theories and hypothesis, but no concrete knowledge. Just that it works. The body is still carrying on with vital tasks like heart beat, lungs b
