20221225 : world war III

From earlier this year, the war/ conflict between Russia and Ukraine broke out. Conflicts and wars are nothing new to the globe. One is happening all the time somewhere...

We are usually fairly insulated from them but for the graphic content on TV trying their best to sensationalise. It usually is localised to the geography and we turn a blind eye. It's insensitive but it is reality. The next days bring with it the next news item as a flavour of the day.

This one is different. We are all feeling the impacts - whether it is energy , economy and inflation or food shortages or something else.

But that is not the war the world has entered. It is a war we have all entered without realising.

After world war II, Germany had a very subdued defence policy , external outlook and defence spending. Same with Japan. They were one of the softest with defence spending and foreign outlook.. but that has changed...

Since the conflict has broken out, (i) it has emboldened many countries (ii) it has scared almost every country and everyone I know is beefing up their defence and net defence importers have started frantically buying (iii) net producers are increasing manufacturing and exporting defence equipment.

Where is the money coming from? It is coming from? It is the same kitty! Other very important and pressing issues everywhere - like health, hunger, shelter, environmental issues will be/ are going on the back burner. That is the immediate issue we all face.

Plus defence manufacturing is any other manufacturing - except a lot more profitable. Businesses which manufacture are businesses at the end of the day. The have to show growth! Growing manufacturing and growing sales. There is only so much countries can formally buy. After that they still have to sell. It will happen to countries informally and private players everywhere. Any what do we need for it? More wars have to be created!

That is the real world war III we have all entered - de prioritised current pressing issues and future instability to ourselves.

Its funny, just a few days back, I was chatting with a friend of mine regarding ill prioritised funds and its impacts 🙄

20240124 : balancing the equations...

It is fascinating to read and understand how muscles work. For all my life, (since I had not given it any thought earlier), I simply had assumed a muscle is 1 muscle. Ex, if we say bicep muscle, it was one muscle in my mind (I don't know why I imagined so, but so it was). The truth is very far from it . Each muscle is made up of hundreds of strands (maybe thousands). And the best part (I have practically understood, not backed by any medical stuff) - is that each strand is connected separately to the brain and not as one.  For mechanical enthusiasts, each strand works like a sort of rack and pinion arrangement, operated by a chemical reaction, triggered by the brain. 20240402 : Transducers...

Transducers Came across this word recently when I was reading something. Hadn't come across it for a while. Its a word and concept I learnt in my electronics course (either in 12th or my 1st year engineering course I am not very sure now) A transducer, very plainly speaking, is something which helps bridging the analog world with the digital world.  For example, take the very simple digital thermometer in our homes. They can't directly measure temperature in digital form. They have a transducer inside which converts the temperature from a analog/ real world scale to a digital world scale so it can be displayed. Generally speaking, we can say it helps bridge the real world with the digital world. When I had my stroke and I was told I will struggle for balance, I was not able to understand why.
